Course Overview
This nationally recognised, Free TAFE course, is the start of your career caring for young children. Study the vital foundation skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified assistant in the Early Childhood sector, including being taught by experienced Early Childhood Educators who share their immediate knowledge of industry standards and practices.
With seven weeks of practical placement in industry, you’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge to succeed and work appropriately in the early childhood sector, which has increased demand for qualified educators.

What You'll Learn
The course encompasses the health, education and sociological aspects of childcare to prepare you for work in a range of environments. You’ll gain the skills to use organisational policies, procedures, and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children. You’ll also learn to facilitate their leisure and play, enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes

Entry Requirements
- Applicants must be aged 17 or over at the time of course commencement
- Applicants are expected to have literacy skills at Year 11 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3 and numeracy skills at Year 10 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2
- Working with Children Check and Police Check required for industry work placement
- Apprenticeship and traineeship applicants must be currently employed under a training contract and referred by their employer
Work Placement
210 hours of work placement is required in this course, organised by The Gordon You will complete 3 industry placements of 4 days a week, scheduled evenly throughout the course. *Please note that you may be required to travel outside of your usual training location to attend placement. This may include other regional areas or suburbs of Melbourne.
Recognition Of Prior Learning
Each qualification is made up of units of study. To gain RPL, you will need to demonstrate that you have the required skills and knowledge to meet the competencies of the unit.
