Course overview
This course will give you broad-based health knowledge and includes topics that focus on the provision of nutrition advice and pre-screening of dietary requirements. It is self-paced and online and would be the ideal foundation for working as a skilled assistant to a nutritionist, dietitian or other health professional.
The certificate covers meal and menu planning, nutrition education support and case management as well as how to deliver effective client service.
The HLT43015 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Nutrition and Dietetics) has been developed by a leading accredited practising dietitian.
In 18 months or less you could gain a nationally recognised qualification and be ready to pursue a variety of roles in allied health, or nutrition. Alternatively, you may choose to build your career with further qualifications in nutrition and dietetics, allied health or nursing.
Study Nutrition & Dietetics Assistance Online
This course is delivered through a combination of online learning and a work placement. You will learn your theory, knowledge and initial skills online while your practical skills in nutrition are gained through a work placement.
You will do your work placement in a health centre or other appropriate workplace. Open Colleges can advise you on how to find a suitable work placement, or you could take advantage of our one of our industry Workplace and Assessment Centres, Healthy Eats in Newcastle NSW.

Entry requirements
Education
You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:
- A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
- 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.
Minimum Age
You will need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.
Work placement
The course contains 120 hours of work placement
A minimum of 120 hours in the workplace with access to at least three clients. Depending on the nature of the workplace and the learners performance, it is possible that the learner may require additional time.
