Delivery
- You can choose from either blended online or class-based delivery. Both models enable you to practise relevant skills and knowledge throughout the course and in a real workplace environment
- Class-based delivery includes activities, discussions, verbal presentations and group work, as well as simulations using role-plays and problem solving activities. Theory is delivered using online modules which you complete in your own time. The duration of class-based delivery is approximately 40 weeks
- Online delivery includes all theory delivered online with the addition of five evenings of skills training sessions delivered before students start placement. The skills training sessions cover simulations and case-studies which reflect typical situations designed to prepare you for the workplace
- We will support you to locate an appropriate mental health services provider (in Melbourne) to complete your 120 hours placement, or you may source your own placement subject to trainer approval
Entry Requirements
- There are no specific entry requirements, however to gain maximum benefit from this training, you will need to be able to speak, read and write fluently in English. It is recommended that applicants have completed to at least a Year 11 secondary school level or a Certificate III level qualification. You will need to be comfortable using a computer and the Internet, with reliable online access. All applicants will be required to undertake a pre- training review, including an evaluation of existing language, literacy and numeracy skills
- We require students to be a minimum of 18 years of age for this course

Work Placement
- Placements can be completed at a wide range of community mental health services to suit your availability and career interests. You will be required to complete a minimum of 120 placement hours which is approximately 15 eight hour shifts or 20 six hour shifts, for example, depending on your placement provider
- If you are already working in the mental health sector, you can choose to complete your placement at your existing workplace. If not appropriate, or if you would prefer to broaden your experience, we will assist you to select and secure an alternative placement
- Your trainer/assessor will aim to visit you at least twice during placement, in the Melbourne metropolitan area and subject to restrictions, which must be completed within six months of the conclusion of your classes
Assessment
- Assessment tasks are practical and oriented to the work or placement context for relevance and are completed for each unit. They consist of a variety of tasks requiring the ability to research, analyse and present your responses in written form, such as short answer questions, reports and practical demonstrations. Assessments may be required to be completed in class, in your own time, or as part of your work placement as required
- Feedback on completion of tasks is given as you progress through the course. You will also be assessed while on site completing your placement of minimum 120 hours. Your placement supervisor will be asked to provide feedback reports on your progress and on your overall placement performance

- You will receive learning resources prior to or at your first session and further resources will be supplied to you as required. We will supply online modules per unit, which includes all learning and assessment materials. Further resources may include handouts or video links to enhance your learning
