by Adelaide Morse

There are heaps of one minute hacks that claim to be able to change your life – but most involve buying or downloading apps, using fancy theories like the Pomodoro technique and the like.

Here are 10 genuinely helpful one minute life hacks that are a simple way for you to improve your productivity and help to reach your ultimate goals.

Table of Contents

  • 2 2. Put your mobile on ‘Flight Mode’ so you’re not distracted by social media
  • 3 3. Schedule your important tasks the night before in a To-Do List
  • 4 4. Write a list of things that motivate you in just one minute
  • 5 5. Create a playlist that gets you motivated

1. Remove your top sheet so you can make your bed faster in the morning

This is a really practical life hack that helps you in the long run by improving your fulfilling lifestyle. Making your bed in the morning helps discourage negative thoughts by giving you an achieved goal early in the morning. It also helps you keep a daily routine, which increases productivity. By removing the top sheet, all you have to do is pull the doona up and fling some pillows on, as opposed to fussing around trying to lay the sheet straight. (Although, maybe on the 40 degree days, chuck a top sheet on that you can wash more easily than a duvet cover.)

2. Put your mobile on ‘Flight Mode’ so you’re not distracted by social media

This is one of the best One-Minute life hacks you will find. Lots of people suggest using an app, but you can achieve the same result by putting it on flight mode. It means that you won’t be able to use internet, receive or give phone calls or text messages, but still play music and set alarms.

3. Schedule your important tasks the night before in a To-Do List

Prioritise your to-do list the night before. Write down everything you need to do, and then prioritise according to which are the most difficult tasks, which need to be done urgently and which can wait. This means that when you get up the next morning and have plenty left in the gas tank, you know which jobs you need to give your attention to first.

4. Write a list of things that motivate you in just one minute

When you look at the clock and realise that you’ve procrastinated for an hour but can’t find the motivation you need to get started, having a list of your fastest ways to get motivated can inspire you to do some exceptional work. This could be:

  • Stopping for a minute to take a series of deep breaths and refocus
  • Doing 10 push ups to get the blood going
  • Playing with a rubber band, blue tack or other textural substance to re-centre yourself
  • Saying a series of positive affirmations (a fancy way of saying compliments to yourself, about yourself) to improve self-esteem and encourage yourself

5. Create a playlist that gets you motivated

This is the one life hack that you absolutely have to do. If you don’t create it yourself, find someone else’s motivation soundtrack. Music makes a huge difference to your productivity, and can give you that evening power you need to get work done, even after working all day.

6. Start your Christmas list in January

This may seem a little like filling up your car when the gas indicator is at full, but this is actually one of the best life hacks because it will save you serious cash over the year, giving you more spending money, as well as time. Make a list on your phone or in your diary, and every time you see something you think your loved ones would enjoy, write it down. Keep an eye out during the year for big sales, especially around the end of financial year sales. Plus, by the time you get to December, you already know what you’re getting everyone even if you haven’t bought it yet. This means that you won’t waste time looking for ideas, and won’t end up buying people things they don’t really want because it’s all you could find.

There are heaps of one minute life hacks out there that can be helpful, but these six will increase your productivity and save you money, without having to spend anything to make it happen.
Hit your goals early in the day by achieving little ones like making your bed, and knowing what to start with. Keep your productivity high by avoiding social media, phone calls and text messages by keeping your phone on flight mode, and know what will make and keep you motivated.

Start planning in the beginning of your year, so that by the end, you’re ready to go. So play that playlist, and let’s go!
