Changing Courses? Don’t be Nervous, We’ve All Been There.
Suddenly realise mid tutorial that the course you’re in isn’t the one for you? Don’t worry, chances are someone sitting in that room is thinking the same thing.
Changing career paths is a scary thought, but living in fear of doubt and constantly thinking “what if” is worse. All throughout high school it’s drilled into your head that choosing a degree “is the most important decision of your life”, when it really isn’t.
While you have the opportunity, switching degrees may end up being one of the best decisions of your life.
“it’s hard to know where your specific interests and strengths lie until you get started.”
– The Good Universities Guide
If changing courses is still something that is daunting a prospect, weighing out the pros and cons may put your mind at ease.
It’s also important to have discussions with friends, family, and course advisors to better understand what it is that you’re searching for. If that isn’t enough, ask yourself these questions:
Do I see myself pursuing a career in this field?
Am I actually interested in what I’m studying?
Am I happy?
If you’ve answered “no” to one or more of these questions, I think it’s time for a change in scenery.
If There’s a Will There’s a (Path) Way
It’s important to be passionate and motivated in life, and having a job that you love and that will inspire you to work harder everyday will only add to that.
If you’re unsure, there is no way in knowing what suits you best until you give it a chance; no matter how long or how many tries it takes to find the right fit. There’s always an option out there for you.
And remember, you’re not alone and there is always someone to support you in your academic journey.
