Course Overview
Our government-funded SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality offers comprehensive training, including RSA certification, Food Handler’s certificate, bar and cocktail making, beer knowledge, espresso coffee skills, food and beverage service, an introduction to wine, venue management, and essential leadership skills.
Our weekly classes are designed to replicate real-world hospitality experiences, taking place at our purpose-built campus featuring custom bar and coffee facilities that mirror a professional venue. Delivered by a team of experienced industry experts, the course emphasises interactive, hands-on learning in an engaging environment.
This qualification paves the way for supervisory roles in hospitality settings such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, and cafés.

Duration Study Load

Delivery
This course is made up of 10 practical sessions in our training facility, plus self-paced theory online and 36 service periods (12 in-class and 24 in a workplace).
Classes are held on-campus in our custom hospitality training rooms.
Self-paced learning throughout the course including content, videos, articles and presentations (average 10 hrs per week).
If you miss a class you will need to schedule a catch-up class with another group. There are practical observations every week that are assessed as part of the qualification.
Entry Requirements

Individuals may enter this course with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower level qualification. However, it is strongly recommended that individuals undertake lower level qualifications, and/or gain industry experience prior to entering the qualification

You must be over the age of 18 to undertake this course, and need to have access to a workplace, if you wish to achieve the full hospitality qualification

Students need access to computers, email and the internet to complete this qualification
Work Placement
36 Service Periods (12 can be completed in-class and 24 in the workplace).
Recognition Of Prior Learning
You can ask for your relevant existing skills, qualifications and experience to be assessed and taken into account when your level of competency is being assessed. There will be a cost associated, refer to statement of fees and charges. RPL is not covered by government funding.
Assessment
There will be a number of theory assessments on our learning management system, projects, skills testing and observations that your assessor will use to determine your competency.
Each week we will have a leader of the class and they will be assessed on their leadership and planning skills for that session.
On completion of the face-to-face classes, you will need to complete a logbook documenting service periods in a real workplace.
We hold regular open help sessions you can book into, if you need extra support.

What if I miss a class?
You will need to complete a catch-up class as practical observations are undertaken in every class. You may need to wait until one is available.
Parking & Transport
We are a short walk (450 metres) from North Melbourne train station. If you need to drive, there is limited street parking, and time restrictions apply. We do not have private parking for students, but we do have a shelter for bike parking.
Is food provided?
A snack will be provided however you should bring your lunch. We have fridges and microwaves you can use.
What should I wear?
Please wear neat casual attire with closed-toe shoes. If your hair is longer than shoulder length, ensure it is tied back. Avoid exposing your midriff, as this poses a safety risk for burns.
Job referrals
Whilst we cannot guarantee employment, we work with a number of employers who recruit directly from our student pool. If you demonstrate great skills and maintain good participation, we may refer you to employers if they have jobs available.
Pathways
After completing this qualification you may choose to progress to a Diploma of Hospitality. Serve It Up can put you in contact with providers that can offer you further hospitality qualifications.
