What is Human Resource Management?

The people who work for a business or organisation are often referred to as being its human resources; and human resource management is all about ensuring that employees have everything they need to be healthy, happy and thriving. This includes hiring, managing and supporting workers, actively promoting their development, as well as addressing any concerns that they may have.

In addition, the human resources (HR) department is responsible for planning, organising and running a variety of training sessions, such as those related to Work Health and Safety (WHS), labour standards and anti-discrimination practices. When an employee breaks workplace rules or acts inappropriately, HR is also in charge of dealing with the situation.

Human Resources in Australia

Australia’s Human Resources industry is one of the largest and most influential in the world, with roughly 56,000 human resources officers currently employed across the country. The average working week is 38.5 hours long; the average salary for human resource officers is $69,992, while human resource managers earn an average of $107,588. A typical day will involve working at a desk in an office setting and most HR jobs are in New South Wales (32%), followed by Victoria (25%) and Queensland (18%).

Human Resources Courses

To thrive in human resources, you need to be proficient in business administration, people management and conflict resolution, as well as up to speed on the latest developments in labour laws, health and safety. Regardless of whether you’re fresh out of school, looking to change careers or are a professional interested in upgrading your skills, human resources courses can connect you with the training that suits your needs and situation right now.

Certificate

Certificate courses provide a valuable foundation in the core capabilities you will need, such as recruitment and induction processes, the art of effective presentations as well as how to establish positive workplace relations. These popular courses can be completed in as little as 12 months, many offer nationally accredited training, and they provide a clear pathway into entry level roles such as office administrator and human resources officer.

Diploma

If you’re looking to step into higher level roles, such as a human resources coordinator or human resource manager, consider a Diploma of Human Resources or even a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. These widely respected qualifications go into intricate detail regarding workforce planning, recruitment, industrial relations, performance analysis and even risk management. They will also bring you up to speed on the latest developments in contemporary human resources practices.

Bachelor Degree

One of the most common qualifications in human resources is the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management). These highly specialised skills will help any budding HR enthusiast create not only a thorough range of business skills and knowledge which can be used in virtually any industry, but also develop the tasks of a human resource manager, such as recruitment processes, employee relations and contract law.

Our selection of human resources courses is designed and implemented by industry professionals, so whether you take short courses in Brisbane, an HR degree in Melbourne or management training courses online, your hard-earned credentials will be widely recognised.

The Future of Human Resources

Human Resources is more important nowadays than ever before, as not only has the battle for top talent become more competitive, but prospective job-hunters are far more interested in working for companies whose values they relate to. Employees are more likely to advocate for their rights in the workplace as well, which means that an effective HR department can save a business thousands of dollars by managing the interests of all concerned and reducing turnover.

The future of HR in Australia certainly looks bright, as Australian Government data predicts as many as 12% more human resource managers to be working in Australia by 2020.

Is a Career in Human Resources Right for You?

To thrive in HR you must be the ultimate people-person, because not only do you need to be friendly, welcoming and approachable, but also discreet, tactful and professional. Clear communication is a must, high-level administration and organisation skills are essential, and having the ability to deal with a wide range of personalities will hold you in good stead.

Think you’ve got what it takes to thrive in Australia’s human resources industry? If so, Australia’s workplaces need you! Check out the wide range of Human Resources courses advertised, find the course that suits your needs, enquire now and get started!
