Course Overview
Are you interested in applying for an Owner Builder license with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA)?
Becoming an Owner Builder puts you in charge of your construction project, allowing you to save money and have full control over the build process.
Our “Become an Owner Builder” course is designed to support individuals applying for Owner Builder status with the VBA. It’s ideal for those seeking to navigate the Owner Builder application process effectively.
Study Method
- OnlineOnline delivery - online course content with the exception of assessments and work placement
- BlendedBlended delivery - both online course content and partial face to face requirements
- In-classIn class delivery - predominately face to face course content conducted at a specific location
- VirtualVirtual Delivery - Live and interactive classroom-style learning conducted completely online
Duration Study Load
- The course consists of a single Saturday session, running from 8:30am to 3:00pm, and is conducted online.
Entry Requirements
- You’re the owner of the land (or the director of a company or beneficiary of a trust that owns the land)
- Your building work is in relation to, or ancillary to, a single domestic dwelling
- You reside –or intend to reside –in the dwelling
- You are not in the ‘business of building’
- You have successfully completed the owner-builder eLearning assessment, and undertaken construction induction training for the project (if required)
- You have not previously entered into a contract to sell an owner-built home without obtaining the required insurance
- You have not been issued with a building permit as an owner-builder in the previous five years for a different property (However, you may request an exemption if there are special circumstances relating to this requirement, such as economic hardship
that might result if the application were refused)
In addition, you must meet the following prerequisites:
- Have a computer or laptop with Microsoft office (or equivalent). An iPad is not suitable
- Bring copies of the title you are building on
- If more then one person is on the title it is best they attend as well (no additional cost)
